We’re hiring a Fossil Free Football campaigner! (closed)

Position: Fossil Free Football campaigner

About us

Fossil Free Football is a pioneering non-governmental organisation dedicated to making football fossil free. Our mission is to kick polluting sponsors out of our beautiful sport and we advocate for a football calendar that is sustainable both for players and the planet. If football does the right thing, it will have enormous influence. To do this, we build a strong coalition of football fans and players to take on powerful interests within sport.

We started as a group of volunteers. In 2023, we formalised the organisation with a board. Thanks to successful grant applications, we now have a full-time employee. 2024 will be the year to further professionalise and grow. We are now in the position to hire a second employee.

What are you going to do

You are going to be the second Fossil Free Football campaigner, taking on the powerful links between professional football and polluting industries.

Your main responsibilities

  • Campaigning: developing and running campaigns, from drafting a strategy to implementing it.
  • Social media communication: delivering our messages to different target audiences in and around the world of football.
  • Design: creating attractive-looking posts and videos for our (social) media that will change the hearts and minds of football fans.
  • Mobilisation: reaching out to football fans and football players to build a strong coalition.

About you

We are looking for a motivated and resourceful football climate activist with strong campaigning and communication skills. Are you concerned about the climate crisis, keen to help break the power of the fossil fuel industry and a football fan? Are you able to express complex problems in understandable language, influence the public, and get people excited about a fossil-free future? Then this role might be perfect for you.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic climate activist and possess a deep understanding of football culture.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of the climate crisis and climate policies and action. Knowledge about climate action within sports is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Design skills: from infographics to memes, you can help our message get across. You know how to work with relevant software.
  • Excellent writing skills: from press releases to opinion pieces, you can write texts for different audiences. Good English is important, other relevant languages are French, German and Spanish.
  • Proven experience with project management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently. You can connect to a wide variety of football fans and professionals within the football world.
  • Passion for football and a commitment to driving positive change in the sport. You understand who the relevant stakeholders are (football clubs, players, (inter) national associations).

Practicalities

  • You can start March 1st or soon after.
  • We have a preference for someone working from the Netherlands, but will also consider candidates based outside the Netherlands. We will have to review practical, legal and fiscal implications on a case-by-case basis.
  • You can work from home. You may work Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the offices of campaign organisations FossielvrijNL and Reclame Fossielvrij in Amsterdam.

What we offer

  • 40-hour work week, with the possibility to work less, with a minimum of 32 hours.
  • A one-year role, with possibilities to extend to two years (and, if funding allows, for longer).
  • Remuneration: we offer a combination of an attractive and competitive salary, holiday allowance, an appealing vacation days package, pension contribution by the employer and a commitment to employee development. Depending on your experience and additional employer costs applying in your country (social securities, premiums, insurance, etc) the monthly gross salary we can offer ranges from 3120 – 3670 euro based on a 40-hour work week. This is excluding the annual 8% holiday allowance.
