Position: Fossil Free Football campaign intern
Period: January / February 2027 – July 2027 (flexible)
About us
Fossil Free Football is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to making football fossil free. Our mission is to kick polluting sponsors out of our beautiful sport and we advocate for a football calendar that is sustainable both for players and the planet. If football does the right thing, it will have enormous influence. To do this, we build a strong coalition of football fans and players to take on powerful interests within sport.
In 2027, we focus on the (Women’s) World Cup in Brazil, (still) sponsored by the world’s biggest fossil fuel company, Saudi state oil company Aramco.
In 2027, we’ll have one full-time staff member, some freelance help and a group of volunteers. We share the office with climate campaign organisation Fossielvrij in Amsterdam.
What are you going to do?
You will be part of the team; together we take on the links between professional football and polluting companies.
You work on:
- Research: researching the links between football, big polluters and the climate crisis.
- Campaigning: you help run campaigns, from drafting a strategy to implementing it.
- Organising: reaching out to fans, players and others whose voices can help make a difference.
- Social media communication: delivering our messages to different target audiences in and around the world of football.
- Design: creating attractive-looking posts and videos for our (social) media that will change the hearts and minds of football fans.
Together, depending on your qualities and interests, we can decide which areas to focus on.
About you
We are looking for a motivated and resourceful football climate activist. Are you concerned about the climate crisis, keen to help break the power of the fossil fuel industry and a football fan? Are you able to express complex problems in understandable language and get people excited about a fossil-free future? Then this role might be perfect for you.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic climate activist who possesses a good understanding of football culture. Because of the Women’s World Cup in 2027, candidates who follow the women’s game well are encouraged to apply!
